Clinical cure

Resolution of or improvement in the index infection without need for further antibiotic therapy

Microbiological eradication

At least one negative culture of an index pathogen from a clinical specimen that was obtained during or after the course of antibiotic therapy

Superimposed infection

New onset of infection caused by any pathogens other than ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae during the course of antibiotic therapy

28-day mortality

Death from any cause within 28 days after enrollment
