Adsorption onto corn starch of gp120-CD4 binding inhibitor(s) from pomegranate juice (PJ). Corn starch (PURITY® 21, NF grade; 200 mg/ml) was added to PJ prefiltered to remove particulates. After mixing for 1 h at ≈20°C, the starch was allowed to settle and the supernatant fluid was removed by aspiration. The pellets, resuspended (200 mg/ml) in phosphate buffered saline, and the supernatant fluids were tested at serial dilutions for inhibition of CD4 binding to gp120 IIIB as described in the legend for Fig. 2. The inhibitory activity of the resuspended pellet against gp120 BaL-CD4 binding was then confirmed. Control starch did not inhibit gp120-CD4 binding.
