Human pulmonary tissues infected with M. tuberculosis showing the staining pattern of secreted mycobacterial antigens in the lesions as detected by immunohistochemical staining. The right column shows a higher magnification of corresponding pictures, and illustrates intracellular location of all antigens and the granular staining pattern. All antigens are expressed in abundance in the lesions. The staining pattern varies and MPT59 (Ag85B) was detected less frequently than other antigens. The staining is detected mainly in the inflammatory lesions, but a few macrophages in close proximity of the lesions were also stained by these antibodies.
