Penicillium marneffei grows as a yeast at 37°C on Sabouraud dextrose agar but as a mold at 25°C on the same agar, exhibiting a soluble red pigment that diffuses into the medium. (b) The yeast form of P. marneffei has a characteristic morphology, including sausage-shaped yeast bodies shown by the arrow C.
