Survival curves of mice infected with S. pneumoniae strains. A. MF1 mice were infected by the i.c. route with 102, 103 and 104 cfu/mouse of TIGR4 (wt, open squares), FP28 (PspC-, closed circles) and FP262 (PspA-, closed triangles). As a control, animals were also inoculated with different doses (102-107 cfu/mouse) of the unencapsulated mutant FP23 (open circles). Percent survival at different doses is shown.
