Phylogenetic analysis of a 443-nucleotide region of rrs for 118 isolates of 14 Leptospira species. The tree was reconstructed using the neighbor-joining method as implemented in MEGA ver 5.0 [15]. Colour coding represents the following: RED, sequence of a PCR fragment amplified from patients with culture-positive leptospirosis; BLUE, sequence of a PCR fragment amplified from patients with culture-negative leptospirosis; YELLOW, sequence for reference strains obtained from GenBank.
