Low-power examination (A, 20X magnification) shows invasive moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with superficial ulceration. Higher-power magnification (B, 200X magnification and C, 400X) reveals numerous multinucleated malignant cells with glassy eosinophilic viral inclusions, which are strongly positive for HSV by immunohistochemistry (D, 400X magnification)
