• HAP (hospital-acquired pneumonia)

 

  Pneumonia that occurs ≥48 h from time of admission

 

• VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia)

 

  Pneumonia that arises 48 to 72 h after endotracheal intubation

 

• HCAP (healthcare-associated pneumonia)

 

  Prior hospitalization ≥2 days (within 90 days)

 

  Resided in nursing home or long-term care facility

 

  Received recent IV antibiotics, chemotherapy, or wound care (within 30 days)

 

  Attended a hospital or hemodialysis clinic
