Number of influenza-related hospitalizations during the study period between 2009 and 2012 in Taiwan. Five epidemic periods were defined according to the laboratory-confirmed influenza-positive rate from the Taiwan CDC surveillance network, and the dominant isolated viruses were A(H1N1)pdm09 (p1), influenza B and subsequent A(H3N2) (s1), A(H1N1)pdm09 (p2), influenza B (s2) and A(H3N2) (s3) [7–9]
