SIRS systemic inflammatory response syndrome

Sepsis

Severe sepsis

Septic shock

Two or more of the following criteria:

Documented infection together with 2 or more SIRS criteria.

Sepsis-induced tissue hypoperfusion or organ dysfunction, including hypotension, lactic acidosis, oliguria, hypoxemia, coagulation disorders and acute alteration in mental status.

Sepsis with hypotension, despite adequate fluid resuscitation, along with the presence of perfusion abnormalities.

• Temperature > 38°C or <36°C

   

• Heart rate > 90/min

   

• Respiratory rate > 20/min or PaCO 2 < 32 mmHg (4.3 kPa)

   

• WBC > 12 × 109 /L, < 4 × 109/L, or > 10% immature forms
